Most Japanese learners get good at reading and freeze at speaking. The grammar is rule-bound, the politeness levels are real, and the chance to practise out loud rarely lines up with the time you actually have.
YaP fixes that. You hold a Japanese conversation in the app, on your schedule, and the tutor calls out the bits you got wrong without making you feel small.
Standard, Tokyo-based
YaP teaches Standard Japanese based on the Tokyo dialect. This is the variant taught in textbooks, used in national news, and tested in the JLPT. Vocabulary, intonation and verb endings all line up with what an N5 to N2 learner is studying.
Regional accents (Kansai-ben, Hakata-ben) are not supported as a target. The tutor can recognise them but will reply in Standard.

What a session looks like
You ask the tutor to be your landlord. You need to ask politely if you can move out at the end of next month. The tutor stays in keigo. You answer in 丁寧語. You drop a particle. The conversation finishes naturally. At the end the tutor shows you exactly where the を went missing and turns it into a flashcard.
Tomorrow the flashcard is at the top of the review pile. After three reps the particle is automatic.
Who it is for
You are between N5 and N2. You can read hiragana and katakana. Kanji is a long project. You want to speak more than you currently do. You want corrections that focus on the particle and the politeness level rather than the kanji you have not learned yet.
