Practise Japanese with an AI tutor that explains why
Japanese grammar is regular, but it does not work like English. The verb comes last, small particles carry the meaning and the politeness level changes the words you choose. YaP is the place to practise between your lessons, ask the questions you didn't have time for in class and learn the Japanese that matters to you.
Speak or type to the tutor. It answers in Japanese, corrects what matters, explains the rule and asks you to try again.
Standard, Tokyo-based
YaP teaches Standard Japanese based on the Tokyo dialect. This is the variant taught in textbooks, used in national news, and tested in the JLPT. Vocabulary, intonation and verb endings all line up with what you are studying in class.
Regional accents (Kansai-ben, Hakata-ben) are not supported as a target. The tutor can recognise them but will reply in Standard.

What a session looks like
After class. Your teacher covered は and が tonight and it half made sense. You open a lesson and ask for more examples. Then you ask why it's 私は学生です ("I am a student") but だれが来ましたか ("Who came?"), answered with 田中さんが来ました ("Tanaka-san came"). The tutor explains that は marks the topic, what the sentence is about, while が often marks new or focused information, such as the answer to "who?". It gives you a few more to try and corrects you as you go. The lesson is saved with a date and a description, so you can find it again before next week's class.
What you care about. You love a Japanese band and want to understand the lyrics, not just sing along. You ask the tutor to go through a song with you. You learn that 夢 (yume) is a dream, that 涙 (namida) is tears, and that 君 (kimi), a familiar "you", turns up in songs far more often than in everyday conversation. Then you practise telling a Japanese friend which song you like best and why. Every new word is saved as a flashcard for review.

Who it is for
You're learning Japanese properly, not just for a holiday. Maybe you're in evening classes, working towards the JLPT or picking it back up after time in Japan. Perhaps you have family or friends who speak it, a love of the food, the films or the music, or plans to spend more time there.
