Learn Italian (Italiano)

Practise Italian with an AI tutor that explains why

Italian sounds easier than it is. The vocabulary feels familiar until you hit the gender, the prepositions and those little words like ci and ne that seem to mean five things at once. YaP is the place to practise between your lessons, ask the questions you didn't have time for in class and learn the Italian that matters to you.

Speak or type to the tutor. It answers in Italian, corrects what matters, explains the rule and asks you to try again.

Standard Italian

YaP supports Standard Italian (lingua italiana standard) - the variant taught in schools, used in national media, and broadly understood from Milan to Palermo. It is the right target for exams and for working with Italian companies.

Regional varieties (Napoletano, Siciliano, Veneto, Toscano) are out of scope. The tutor recognises them but does not produce them.

What a session looks like

After class. Your teacher covered mi, ti and ci tonight and it half made sense. You open a lesson and ask for more examples. Then you ask why ci turns up in "ci vado domani" and "ci penso io", when you thought it just meant "us". The tutor explains that ci can also mean "there" or "about it", gives you a few more to try and corrects you as you go. The lesson is saved with a date and a description, so you can find it again before next week's class.

What you care about. You love Italian cooking and a friend has sent you a video of her nonna making ragù. You ask the tutor to help you follow it. You learn that soffriggere is to gently fry the base, that un pizzico di sale is a pinch of salt and that q.b. in a recipe means "as much as you need". Then you practise telling your friend how it turned out. Every new word is saved as a flashcard for review.

Or the Sunday call with the in-laws, your grandparents' stories, the colleague in Milan. Whatever you need, YaP follows.

Il mio viaggio in Sicilia è stato bellissimo. Penso ogni giorno!
Ottimo! Per dire “I think about it every day”, usa “pensare a” + qualcosa: “Ci penso ogni giorno.” “Ci” sostituisce “a questo/a quella cosa”.

pensarci: to think about it/them

Who it is for

You're learning Italian properly, not just for a holiday. Maybe you're in your first year of evening classes, working with a tutor or picking the language back up years after school. Perhaps you have family or friends who speak it, a love of the food, the films or the football, or plans to spend more time there.

You don't need to follow anyone else's order. Jump from this week's chapter back to the basics, or straight to the words you need tomorrow. YaP follows you and remembers everything.
